Indie software,
grown by shipping.

Every product here is a plant. It grows each time its maker ships an update, and wilts when they go quiet.

35 products growing · 43 updates read this week

Step one

Plant it once.

Paste your product’s address. The garden finds where you already publish and reads it for you from then on. Nothing to log by hand.

  • Release notes by email

Step two

Every update waters it.

Each update is read and weighed. Points fade by half every two weeks, so what counts is what shipped lately.

Step three

Size is a lifetime of shipping.

Every point a product has ever earned adds up. The plant grows through six sizes, from a seed to a tree in bloom.

  1. Seed0
  2. Sprout8
  3. Bush40
  4. Young tree120
  5. Tree260
  6. In bloom500

Fruit is what shipped this month.

Every feature, release and improvement from the last 30 days hangs on the tree. From across the garden you can see who is shipping right now.

Go quiet and it wilts.

Thirty quiet days and the leaves droop. Ninety and it withers. One release and the colour comes back.

Flourishing

A plant is only composted when its site stays offline for days. Never for being quiet.

Launch day is one day. The garden rewards every week you keep shipping after it.

Questions makers ask

What is Indie Garden?

A directory of indie software where every product is a plant. Plants grow from what their makers ship, so the garden shows who is building right now, not who launched loudest.

Does it cost anything?

No. Listing, claiming and badges are free. There are no votes, no paid placement and nothing that can buy a plant a better spot.

Where do updates come from?

Public changelog feeds and pages, GitHub releases, the App Store and Google Play, npm, PyPI, crates.io, new pages in your sitemap, and release notes you forward by email.

Do I have to post anything by hand?

No. The garden reads your sources every six hours when you are shipping, and once a day otherwise.

What counts, and what does not?

A major feature is worth 10 points, a release with notes 6, an improvement 5 and a fix 2. Dependency bumps and typo fixes count for nothing, and at most five updates count in a day.

Why is my plant wilting?

Nothing has shipped for 30 days. After 90 days it withers. The next update you ship brings the colour back.

Can a plant be deleted for being quiet?

No. A plant is only composted when its site stays offline for several days in a row, and one successful check brings it back.

Can I connect a private repository?

Yes, through the Indie Garden GitHub App. It stores how many commits landed each day and nothing else: no messages, file names or code.

How do I claim or remove my product?

Prove you own the domain with a meta tag or a DNS record. Removal needs no account and takes your page down within six hours.

What does the badge show?

Always a healthy plant, with a shipping streak or how many updates landed this month. A quiet plant gets a plain badge with no claims.

Plant your product.

The tree takes the shape your product’s plant would have.
